June 8, 2008 11:24 pm - Another great hike on the Wahkeena Falls trail today, on up to Devil's Rest. 7.5 miles, Rosie did nearly 3 times that running ahead & back again the whole way. Added some pics to the Columbia River Gorge wildflowers album on my Gallery site (http://gallery.similibus.org), along with some pics of the dogs to the My Dogs album on same.
June 5, 2008 4:39 pm - I've added a new album to my gallery at http://gallery.similibus.org - for Slovenian Alpine Wildflowers. Pics taken on my hikes in the Bohinj region of Slovenja, in the Julian Alps. ~60 pics up there now, and look for more (now with camera with better macro function), during & following my visit in July.
May 29, 2008 10:07 pm - Just started a photo gallery, in a gallery2 installation - at: http://gallery.similibus.org. Linked here in the "my other sites" menu. With albums for Wildflowers (cascades alpine, cascades woodland, columbia river gorge), travel/hiking, and dogs.
May 25, 2008 11:54 am - Just installed the development version of the AsideShop WP plugin - permits option to parse post templates on Archives pages, as well as on Frontpage view. Very nice! Found here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/asideshop/download/ (development version, upgraded from 1.03).

Side stream coming into the Salmon River, at 2.2 miles above the trailhead at the bridge on the Salmon River Road; just below the gate to the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness Area.

That’s Rosie announcing the end of the clip.

Just had to escape the heat again today, & took the dogs up to the Salmon River trail this afternoon - & perhaps just to mark the occasion in a can’t-go-back-now way, took my first trail run of many years. We did ~5 miles round trip, from the bridge crossing on the Salmon River Road to the wilderness area gate & back. I felt pretty good about myself, tho Rosie ran circles around me the whole way. Mollie (my 8 year-old golden) kept looking at me strangely wondering what was up.

The river is incredibly full - the heat is resulting in heavy snowmelt. The gauge is out on the Salmon, but the Sandy where it enters is running 5160 cfs.

This pic, of the footbridge across a small stream coming in at about the 2.2-mile mark

May 18, 2008 12:12 am - Started a new photo gallery (see the Pages menu), of woodland & subalpine wildflowers of the Cascades - in addition to the existing ones for the Columbia River Gorge & Cascades Alpine Meadows. I'll populate these with photos as I accumulate these on my hikes, as a dated photojournal. Sadly I'll be missing the month of July in Oregon this year (tho not so sadly, I'll be spending it in Slovakia, the Czech Republic & Slovenja ...).
May 17, 2008 7:46 pm - Great hike on the Salmon River trail (near Zigzag) today - nice cool air washing down along the stream, nice to get out of the 90+ degrees in town. Molly was as always the best traildog ever, Rosie remained rambunctious after 5 miles, most of it off-leash. Some good wildflower pics - will post soon.
