I installed the stringoverrides module, to permit customization of (some of the) text on the site without needing to hack this in the distribution files.

After installation & activiation, string overrides are configured at
administer > site configuration > string overrides
& this permits me, e.g., to easily replace the main-page text “Published scoops” with “Published items”, &c.
