About
I’m the Chair of the Department of Homeopathic Medicine at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM), in Portland, Oregon; and by fault of interest, the resident edu-geek.
NCNM is an full-time, 4-year medical college, with programs in Naturopathic and Classical Chinese Medicine. Our current (2007/8) student body is ~500 students.
Over the past 6 years I’ve developed and maintained the school’s Learning Management System; beginning with support for my own classes and clinics on a platform cobbled together in PostNuke, and progressing to more a comprehensive system in Moodle. Recently, to support the revision of our curriculum to a more integrated, problem-oriented approach, I’ve been developing a blogging/portfolio platform in Drupal, to bore across the curriculum and supplement the excellent course support provided by the Moodle installation. I’ll use this site to document these platforms, and to journal about their use in education. Sprinkled in with whatever.
I’ve felt supported and aided in my efforts and pedagogical explorations, by a number of folks I know only as webpresences, and who likely have been unaware of how much support and inspiration they’ve provided to folks such as me. I’ve included these, and over time will include more, in my Blogroll.
In case you were unable to guess from the header images, tho I currently live in Oregon (and formerly in Maine), my second home is Central Europe, where I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to teach on a regular basis in the Czech Republic.
Thanks for stopping by; I hope I can pass along support & inspiration to others on similar endeavors, & even perhaps a smidgen of wisdom from time to time.
btw - “simili-” from the Latin “similibus”, “similar.” The guiding principle of homeopathic treatment.
